Vancouver’s Joyce Collingwood – A Rich History
Let’s travel back in time, through the rich tapestry of Joyce Collingwood’s history.
From its early days as fertile farmland transformed by the arrival of the British Columbia Electric Railway in 1891, this neighbourhood quickly blossomed. As streets like Joyce Road developed, we welcomed a bustling array of businesses and became a hub of community life until this day.
Joyce Collingwood boasts a rich history marked by several key historical sites. The Carleton School has educated generations since its establishment and even hosted a visit from the Prince of Wales in 1919. The Bursill Public Library, now known as VPL Collingwood, opened in 1911 and served as a vital community resource. The old Collingwood Inn (now TD Bank) provided respite for travellers along Kingsway. These landmarks encapsulate the enduring spirit and development of the Joyce Collingwood neighbourhood.
