Welcome to Historical Collingwood, one of Vancouver's oldest neighbourhoods. This unique neighbourhood dates back to the late 1890’s. Many of the early settlers in the area were farmers. Avalon Dairy, one of the oldest established dairy farms in the province, is still located here.

Another historical site in Collingwood is Sir Guy Carleton School at the corner of Kingsway & Joyce.  The original 2 room school house still sits on the site and up until a recent fire, was still in use.  Carleton School is reported to be the oldest original school house in BC, perhaps in Canada. Two newer school buildings on the site are also quite impressive.  These were built in the early 1900's and are home to over 400 students.

Collingwood is a cultural, ethnically diverse, family-oriented community.  It is home to over 34,600 residents who represent a multicultural centre of Chinese, Indo-Canadian and Filipino heritage.

Long-time family owned businesses and anchor tenants provide a stable market base, while fresh new businesses continue to move into the BIA area.  There are over 370 businesses to serve the local market, with the majority being in the service sector and closely followed by retail.  Commercial businesses catering to ethnically diverse and larger, family-oriented households will find a solid market base in the Collingwood BIA.
